The athletes competing in the prelims of the UFC’s 10th visit to Newark made the most of their time inside the Octagon, with the exception of one Brazilian heavyweight who had different plans.

Six of the seven fights on the UFC 302 prelims went the distance, highlighted by a thrilling bout between Bassil Hafez and Mickey Gall early in the night, and an entertaining clash between Cesar Almeida and Roman Kopylov to close out the prelims. The only finish came courtesy of Jailton Almeida, who rebounded emphatically from his first UFC loss by running through Alexandr Romanov.

Here are the details of what went down:

- **Andre Lima (30-27, 30-27)** defeats **Mitch Raposo (29-28)** by Split Decision

**Andre Lima** secured his second UFC win to open Saturday’s fight card in Newark, outworking Mitch Raposo to earn a unanimous decision victory. The Brazilian, who missed weight by four pounds, focused on chopping at Raposo’s legs early, which slowed the newcomer down. Lima’s efficient offense secured his victory, moving him to 2-0 in the UFC and 9-0 in his career.

**Ailin Perez** and **Joselyne Edwards** went the full 15 minutes, with Perez securing her third straight UFC win. Perez’s ability to hit throws and drag Edwards to the canvas helped her dominate, despite Edwards’ occasional reversals. Perez’s spinning backfist in the second round was a highlight, though she didn’t capitalize fully. Perez now has a 10-2 overall record.

**Bassil Hafez** and **Mickey Gall** spent three rounds exchanging powerful shots, setting a high bar for Fight of the Night honors. Hafez was aggressive early, but Gall found his rhythm later. Ultimately, Hafez won unanimously, securing his first UFC victory.

**Jake Matthews** and **Philip Rowe** kicked off the televised prelims with a back-and-forth contest. Matthews’ volume and activity helped him secure a unanimous decision victory, his 13th UFC win and 20th career victory, while Rowe suffered his second straight defeat.

**Grant Dawson** rebounded from his first UFC loss with a dominant performance against **Joe Solecki**. Dawson controlled the fight, especially in the last two rounds, showcasing his grappling skills. Dawson, now 9-1-1 in the UFC, continues to be a promising contender in the lightweight division.

**Jailton Almeida** ended the decision streak with a first-round submission win over **Alexandr Romanov**. Almeida quickly took Romanov down and secured a rear-naked choke, bouncing back from his first UFC loss and improving his record to 7-1 in the UFC and 21-3 overall.

**Roman Kopylov** showcased his wrestling skills in his split decision win over **Cesar Almeida**. Mixing in takedowns with striking, Kopylov controlled the fight and secured an important bounce-back victory. Almeida, experiencing his first MMA loss, falls to 5-1.
